Anarchist Parenting
WHEN: 10am – 11am
WHERE: Pemulwuy Room

Parenting is an essential and defining practice for humans of all different families, cultures and groups. It is also one that receives a great deal of scrutiny and criticism (read: blame) when things are found to be problematic in children or society.

For this workshop, instead of telling parents what to do (or not to do) you are invited to come and hear from a panel of parents who are speaking from their experience raising children with a feminist philosophy.

Is parenting just “women’s work”? How do you parent in a way that is anti-racist and inclusive of gender and sexual diversity? What about pink/blue? How do you keep your kids safe while smashing the (patriarchal) state?

All these questions and more will be addressed by our panelists with time for questions and discussion. Kids and non-parents all welcome!!

Monopolies, Monsanto & Taking Back Our Food
WHEN: 10am – 11am
WHERE: Virginia Bolten Room

With speakers from the Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNet), Sam Castro from Whistleblowers, Activists and Citizens Alliance (WACA) and Jessica and Fran from Mothers Are Demystifying Genetic Engineering (MADGE).

The workshop will cover the nasty effects of agrichemicals on farmers, eaters and the environment. The Trans-Pacific Partnership threatens to tighten the grip of multinationals on our food and farms, It gives multis the right to sue governments over health or environmental legislation, if they can claim that a law or policy harms their “investment”. As exposed by Edward Snowden, the US government pushes GM agriculture as part of their trade deals and “aid”. We need to inform ourselves so we can act decisively when majority world farmers and workers are under threat. International solidarity is crucial.

The Rise Of Fascism In Europe And Australia
WHEN: 10am – 11am

What Is Anarchism?
WHEN: 3:30pm – 5pm
WHERE: Pemulwuy & Virginia Bolten Rooms

A talk about anarchism and revolution by Rob Sparrow, followed by a facilitated discussion around the question ‘What is Anarchism?’

To bring about an anarchist society in Australia would require a revolution. Rob’s talk will examine this claim and discuss its implications for anarchist political practice today. What would an anarchist revolution look like? And how might anarchists today work to make it more likely that such a revolution happens? What would a post-revolutionary anarchist society look like? And how might thinking about this question inform what we understand by anarchism?
